It's the end of the year and of course all you are seeing are blogs on
New Year’s resolutions and most anticipated films of 2015.
And yes, this happens to be one of those as well because what better way to end the year than talking about films?
I wanted to share a few of what my most anticipated films for 2015.
So let’s start with the obvious...
Star Wars VII: The
Force Awakens
How can you not be excited about this movie? The original
cast is back, J.J. Abrams directed it and co-wrote it with Lawrence Kasdan (who
co-wrote V and VI with Lucas) and the young cast coming in are all extremely
strong actors/actresses. I’m a little nervous that Disney owns Star Wars to be honest
with you. However, given Abrams track record with sci-fi and what he did with
the Star Trek reboot, I am definitely going to hold him to a high standard.

The Hunger Games:
Mockingjay – Part 2
There seems to be a lot of hype about this movie. People are
focusing on how great (or how bad) the first one was and since it was shot back
to back – what that may mean. There is also talk about what might have been
changed when Hoffman’s death occurred during the end of production. But here’s the deal. Francis Lawrence is back directing. Jennifer
Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth are all amazing in their roles.
Pros like Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland
and Philip Seymour Hoffman (just to name a few) complete this ensemble to help
tell the ending to this great story.
The Avengers: Age of
Ultron
Joss Whedon has done a great job with the Avengers. I do not really know the comic book storyline of Age of Ultron but the premise of this movie seems interesting and needless to say the teaser trailer looked amazing. The whole cast is solid and who doesn’t love a sci-fi action film?

Here are a few you may or may not know about…
Joy
There are no photos or trailers for this David O. Russell
movie, but I stalk IMDB sometimes and found out about this one. Annie Mumolo
wrote the script (her last script was Bridesmaids just to give you a hint of
her skills) and it stars Jennifer
Lawrence as Joy Mangano, the struggling single mom who became one of the
country’s most successful entrepreneurs. Ever heard of the Miracle Mop Here’s why I’m curious about it. I enjoy these types of
movies that share these real life stories (Erin Brockovich, Pursuit of
Happyness, etc) and Russell is working basically the cast of “Silver Linings
Playbook” again with Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. But
is a third movie with Lawrence, Cooper and Russell starting to get stale or
just adding another great movie to the collection?
Sisters
Tina Fey. Amy Poehler. A script by Paula Pell who is a
Saturday Night Live writer alum and directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect was
his first movie). All add up to a great comedy. The story is about two sisters
who decide to throw one last house party before their parents sell their family
home. The ensemble includes a lot of SNL alumni and even some heavy hitters
like James Brolin and Dianne Wiest. The
prospect of a movie that is basically the Tina and Amy show is already gold.
With Pell and Moore guiding it, I think this will be a huge hit.
Pixels
Not many will know about this since it is based of a 2010 internet short of the same name.
Chris Columbus is directing with Adam Sandler, Kevin James,
Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad and Michelle Monaghan staring in it. The premise is definitely an original. When aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic
arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth using the games as
models for their various assaults.
Sandler plays a former 1980 video game champion who is called upon by
the President (played by James) to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
And lastly, some you probably have heard of...
Pitch Perfect 2
The cast is back for a sequel with Elizabeth Banks directing
it this time. The trailer looks great, everyone sounds awesome and the
storyline actually works. My hesitancy is that this was one of those under the
radar comedies that blew up. So when you try to make it into a comedy
franchise... well it could easily back fire. I’m crossing my fingers for these
ladies!

Tomorrowland
This is another Disney movie that I am really looking
forward to. Brad Bird co-wrote and is directing it and his resume speaks for
itself. Bird’s strongest attribute is
his storytelling and with what the plot is plus with the up and coming Britt
Roberston paired with George Clooney, I am optimistic about this movie.
Random fact, Brad Bird was actually sought out for Star Wars
VII and turned it down to do this movie.

Crimson Peak
Guillermo Del Torro has always had a great resume of movies but they have
either been big budget Hollywood or independent stories of the supernatural.
With this movie, he was able to squish them both together into what is being called
a “gothic” horror film. I’m on the fence
if I will actually go since I am not a horror fan, but I am extremely curious how well this ensemble will
work together – including the script and the cast. I’m a big fan of the 3
leads Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam, but they haven’t really had a chance to prove themselves as box-office
selling power. Maybe this will be their chance?
Other films to watch out for in 2015:
- Huge fan of Neill Blomkamp who directed District 9 & Elysium.
- Another great Disney movie.
- Another series trying their hand at reboot. I'm optimistic given the cast.
- Action. Great car stunts. Not sure about Wan as the director given his Horror background.
- Ron Howard. Chris Hemsworth. Based on the book about the real life event which inspired "Moby Dick"
The Jungle Book
- Jon Favreau is the director for this live action film with a long list of big actors for the animals.
